Biography

Dr. Jenny Womack joined the faculty of Appalachian State in August 2022. She is the Founding Director of the program in Occupational Therapy in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and will be working to develop a graduate entry-level professional program to enroll master’s students in the Fall of 2024. Dr. Womack previously taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and served as both admissions coordinator (2002-2012) and program coordinator (2012-2015) for the entry level MSOT program during her tenure there, as well as Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs for the Department of Health Sciences.

Dr. Womack’s clinical activities and research focus on aging, neurorehabilitation, caregiving and community-based practice. Within the realm of aging, she has been engaged with dementia caregiving initiatives, collaboration focused on aging-in-place and aging-in-community and issues related to transportation and housing. She served for 10 years as the consulting occupational therapist with the Orange County (NC) Department on Aging.  Dr. Womack was named as a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association in 2012 for her role in developing engaged community practice to support occupation.
