Student Learning Outcomes
Through their education in the Master of Science program in Occupational Therapy, successful students and graduates of the program will:
GOAL I: Articulate and apply therapeutic use of occupations as an entry-level generalist practitioner with persons, groups, and populations for the purpose of facilitating performance and participation in occupations, roles, and situations in the natural settings of everyday life, as informed by the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework.
Outcome I.1. Students/graduates apply relevant occupational therapy theory through evidence-based evaluations and interventions to achieve desired outcomes related to occupation.
Outcome I.2. Students/graduates identify and employ evidence-based assessment tools relevant to the clients’ developmental stage, therapeutic needs, and life contexts.
Outcome I.3. Students/graduates identify and apply evidence based occupational therapy interventions to address the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory, and other aspects of performance in a variety of contexts and environments to support engagement in everyday life.
GOAL II: Implement knowledge, skills and attitudes in professional realms that reflect a breadth and depth of cross-cultural humility and understanding of diverse client populations.
Outcome II.1 Students/graduates serve diverse client populations with awareness of and attention to how their cultural and social backgrounds influence views of health, well-being, and occupation.
Outcome II.2 Students/graduates respond professionally to differing viewpoints and life experiences of clients and colleagues that influence therapeutic engagement.
GOAL III: Uphold the ethical standards, values, and attitudes of the occupational therapy profession and the relevant institutions and realms in which professional work is performed.
Outcome III.1 Students/graduates consistently apply ethical standards as set forth in the OT Code of Ethics
Outcome III.2 Students/graduates function as informed and ethical colleagues who adhere to workplace standards and work effectively for equitable and just change to workplace policies.
GOAL IV: Skillfully employ information and communication technologies prevalent in contemporary society to perform as competent professionals and support client participation in occupation.
Outcome IV.1 Students/graduates demonstrate proficient use of electronic health and education records.
Outcome IV.2. Students/graduates exhibit best practices in the ethical and confidential use of electronic technologies for professional communication and facilitation of client goals.
GOAL V: Serve as contributing members of inter- and intra-professional teams for the benefit of client outcomes
Outcome V.1 Students/graduates foster optimal intra- and interprofessional collegial relationships using knowledge and skills in communication and interpersonal relationships.
Outcome V.2 Students/graduates serve in both leadership and collaborative team roles with integrity.
