Biography:

Emily Hornback joined the department in 2016 as a Clinical Educator with a primary focus in Medical Speech-Language Pathology. In 2023, she and her family relocated to the Gastonia area and she transitioned to an adjunct instructor position. 

After completing her master’s degree in 2012, Emily worked as a speech-language pathologist at Trinity Village in Hickory, NC where she specialized in assessment and rehabilitation of adults and geriatric adults with swallowing disorders, aphasia, and cognitive-linguistic disorders. During this time, she also supervised graduate student clinicians within the skilled nursing facility setting.

Emily is a Board Recognized Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S). She also serves as a mentor for speech-language pathologists seeking this certification, students enrolled in the Student to Empowered Professional Mentoring Program (S.T.E.P), and undergraduate majors in the ASU Communication Sciences and Disorders program.
