Biography:

Karalee Cole joined the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders as a Clinical Educator in 2016.  She provides early intervention and preschool language services, and supervises graduate student clinicians, at the Charles E. and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Clinic.

After obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees from The University of Iowa, Karalee began her career as a school speech-language pathologist, providing services in individual, small-group, whole-class, and team-teacher models for regular and special education students.  During this time, she also supervised graduate student clinicians providing aural rehabilitation services at the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Over the next 15 years, Karalee worked for a language and literacy company founded by speech-language pathologists, then purchased by The Chicago Tribune, and eventually absorbed by McGraw-Hill Publishing.  Karalee was the Director of Software Curriculum and Field Testing, responsible for developing preschool-to-third grade language and literacy curricula associated with early literacy software and accompanying classroom curriculum and software manuals. In this role, she traveled across the country to provide teacher training and assess the implementation of new products within test-site classrooms. 

For nine years prior to moving to Boone, Karalee provided early intervention services for families and their children (birth-to-3 years of age) in their homes or in childcare settings through the state of Iowa's Grant Wood Area Education Agency. She collaborated with families, agency colleagues, and community resources to evaluate, determine eligibility, and provide effective intervention services. She also mentored new employees to the agency. Speech pathology students from The University of Iowa and The University of Northern Iowa worked one-on-one with Karalee during semester-long placements and internships.
